Can you imagine what life would be like without photography? It’s become such a routine part of our lives that it’s easy to take for granted. We pull out our phones and snap beautiful pictures with the press of a button, capturing memories that we can share with others. Social media has really helped evolve this art form. If you’re looking to take great photos and commemorate your visit, then you need to check out these Instagrammable places in Atlanta.

Feel free to check out our top 10 recommendations below and make sure you follow the Stonehurst Place Instagram page for more inspiration! We love posting pictures of our elegant inn as well as nearby attractions throughout the city.

Piedmont Park

Take a short stroll from Stonehurst Place in Midtown Atlanta to discover acres upon acres of beauty at Piedmont Park. This vast green space has rolling hills, peaceful pathways, and even a shimmering lake. It’s perfect for pictures no matter what season you decide to visit, especially when the dogwood flowers bloom in spring, and the trees showcase their colorful foliage in fall. Plus, Piedmont Park hosts a variety of events, like the Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the Atlanta World Kite Festival, that provide more opportunities for photography!

Atlanta Botanical Garden

If you’re searching for more natural beauty in the Midtown Atlanta area, then make sure you save time to visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It’s right next to Piedmont Park! Venture 40 feet above the ground on the Kendeda Canopy Walk to capture the beauty of the Storza Woods, Cascades Garden, and the Earth Goddess sculpture. You can also head over to the Skyline Garden to see water lilies, succulents, and enjoy a scenic overlook of Piedmont Park. As if it couldn’t get any better, there’s also the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory, which is overflowing with tropical flowers, citrus plants, and orchids. Visit during the holiday season to witness a winter wonderland for the Garden Lights, Holiday Nights display!

Ponce City Market

Take your Instagram fan base to new heights with pictures from Ponce City Market! Fuel your creativity with a meal in the Central Food Hall, then take a ride on the elevator up to the rooftop. This is the only spot in Atlanta that offers views of the Midtown, Downtown, and Buckhead skylines! Consider visiting in the evening to capture this spectacle as the sun sets over the horizon. Feel free to treat yourself to some tasty beverages at 9 Mile Station or try your hand at carnival games and mini-golf!

SkyView Atlanta

Another towering attraction (for those of you who aren’t afraid of heights) is the SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel in Downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park. This 20-story-tall Ferris wheel has over 40 private gondolas with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering excellent views of the city. Of course, don’t forget to take pictures as you admire the sights for yourself!

Georgia Aquarium

Animal lovers should include a visit to the Georgia Aquarium on their itinerary. It’s the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere, home to thousands of sea creatures and several fascinating exhibits. Take a selfie with a whale shark, get a picture with penguins, and snap a photo of sea lions. There are so many possibilities. Plus, I think we all know how much people love Instagram profiles with cute animals!

High Museum of Art

If you prefer artwork over animals, then we know a fantastic place for you to spend a little time. It’s the High Museum of Art, a treasure trove of artwork from around the world and throughout time. The museum permits casual photography for personal use and social media sites as long as you do not use them for profit. The staff simply asks that you keep your camera’s flash turned off. Follow their simple guidelines, and you should have no trouble collecting a variety of pictures for your Instagram page.

Krog Street Tunnel

Have you ever strolled through a city and noticed a display of graffiti that particularly caught your eye? The Krog Street Tunnel is known for its wealth of graffiti-style artwork in a unique public space. Take a picture in front of your favorites! It’s one of the best urban photoshoot locations in Atlanta.

Atlanta BeltLine

The Krog Street Tunnel is actually part of a series of pathways known as the Atlanta BeltLine. You’re welcome to go for a walk or ride a bike along your chosen path to see charming parks, historic sites, and street-art installations. This transportation project provides ample opportunities for Instagram pictures. Plus, it’s just a great way to get around the city from attraction to attraction!

Restaurants

Anyone familiar with Instagram knows that high-quality food pictures perform well. If you’re hoping to build a page for foodies, then you’re in luck. There are plenty of Instagram-worthy restaurants in Atlanta that serve gourmet dishes. Your parents might have told you never to play with your food, but they didn’t specify that you couldn’t take pictures of it!

Stonehurst Place

Last, but certainly not least, is our award-winning inn. As soon as you see it from the sidewalk, you’ll be eager to get your phone out and take photographs of the exterior and gardens. There’s even more beauty waiting for you inside! Here are the best selfie spots at Stonehurst Place:

  • The front porch under our hand-painted sign
  • The lobster fountain in our gardens made with shards of porcelain from our expat owner Barb’s wedding in Germany, at her Polterabend. Some of the porcelain shards are older than Stonehurst Place!
  • Our Music Room with the Mason Hamlin grand piano and Knockers: Lucia V by Nina Mae Fowler
  • The large fireplace in the entry foyer with a photo of George Hinman in the background
  • The Dining Room with gourmet food and elegant decor

We also welcome you to take pictures with Jean Harlow looking over you in the Fowler Suite, below the Andy Warhol in the Music Room or next to the one in the foyer (our owner Barb calls it the ‘Goucho Wearing Chicken Lady’ although Andy Warhol named it ‘Female Costumed Figure’), and walking out the front door with the caption “we shall return.” Just make sure you tag @StonehurstPlace and use #StonehurstPlace so that we can enjoy your photos as well!

Enjoy an Instagram-Worthy Getaway in #MidtownAtlanta!
