Embark on the Ultimate Charlotte to Atlanta Road Trip
Note: We have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation very closely and realize that some of the attractions we list in this blog might be temporarily closed. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan ahead for the ultimate road trip once this situation passes! Without further ado, here’s our guide to an incredible getaway:
Hit the Road
We have good news for all you road trippers — especially those of you who aren’t particularly good with directions. There are 245 miles between Charlotte and Atlanta, and you can stay on the same road for almost the entire journey! Simply hop on I-85 S and follow this highway for about four hours to reach your destination.
Tip: Keep an eye out for the iconic Peachoid water tower as you drive through Gaffney, SC. You can see this 135-foot-tall peach directly from the highway!
Take a Break in Greenville
You’re welcome to listen to your favorite tunes and complete the entire trip without any stops since Atlanta is only four hours away. However, if you could use a little pit stop to stretch your legs and explore a unique area, then we know the ideal place to go. There are several cities between Charlotte and Atlanta, but one of them stands out among the rest: Greenville, South Carolina.
This lively, fast-growing city is home to historic attractions, charming shops, popular restaurants, beautiful state parks, and so much more. Stroll down Main Street, grab a quick drink at a local craft brewery, and fuel up for the rest of your road trip with a delicious meal. Make sure you save time to check out the Greenville Zoo or the Greenville County Museum of Art, too. They offer some of the best things to do between Charlotte and Atlanta!
The real fun begins when you arrive in Atlanta. We recommend that you spend as much time as possible in Midtown Atlanta, due to its pedestrian-friendly environment, unparalleled arts and entertainment scene, and exciting nightlife. Plus, the cuisine here is simply extraordinary, with several top-rated restaurants and talented chefs. Here’s a small taste of the incredible attractions here:
- Piedmont Park (Open!)
- Atlanta Botanical Garden (Closed until the end of May)
- High Museum of Art (Closed until the end of May)
- Museum of Design Atlanta (Closed until the end of May)
