5 of the Best Distilleries Near Atlanta, GA
Please note that some of these distilleries might be temporarily closed, have limited hours, or only offer curbside pickup due to COVID-19.
Old Fourth Distillery
One of the top distilleries in Atlanta happens to be minutes away from Stonehurst Place! Old Fourth Distillery is only 10 minutes away from our inn and offers tours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Walk-ins are welcome, but it’s a good idea to make reservations ahead of time to ensure you get a spot. Tours include time in the tasting room where you can try some of their top-notch spirits, like their straight bourbon whiskey, vodka, and gin.
Tip: Try the recipe recommendations on their website to enjoy tasty mixed drinks from home!
If you have time, head over to ASW Distillery next. It’s another popular distillery within minutes of Stonehurst Place in the Midtown Atlanta area. They have public tours available on the same days as Old Fourth Distillery and are happy to accommodate walk-ins as well. Here, you get a behind-the-scenes look at their Scottish-style double copper pot stills and learn what sets their spirits apart from the rest. This is the place to go for fans of whiskey!
Note: While the educational tours are free, there is an extra cost for tastings.
Independent Distilling Company
Feel free to continue your Atlanta distillery tour with a visit to the Independent Distilling Company in nearby Decatur, GA. Michael Anderson, the founder of the company, has a passion for producing spirits, and it shows. In fact, Independent Distilling Company’s barrel-aged rum won Georgia’s Best Distilled Spirit in the Georgia Trustees Wine and Spirits Competition. Stop by and give it a try along with various other handmade beverages made from local ingredients. You can enjoy them as a flight or mix it up with some cocktails!
Hope Springs Distillery
If you’re hoping that there are more top-rated distilleries near Atlanta, you’re in luck. Hope Spring Distillery has you covered with vodka, gin, and the only absinthe produced in the entire state of Georgia! Their location is about 30 minutes east of Atlanta in Lilburn, GA, but the drive is worth it to try their tasty spirits made with all-natural ingredients.
Lazy Guy Distillery
Last but not least is the Lazy Guy Distillery in Kennesaw, GA. While it’s also about 30 minutes away from Stonehurst Place in Midtown Atlanta, this is a must-have on itineraries for whiskey lovers. The distillery is open to visitors on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, but tours are only available on Saturdays. Stop by to enjoy their spirits and specialty cocktails, then feel free to explore the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History nearby.
Fun fact: Lazy Guy Distillery’s buildings date back to the 1800s, just like our mansion that dates back to 1896!
